UP Tacloban faculty, staff, and students held simultaneous UPCAT information sessions for Grade 11 students in eight public high schools in Caibiran, Naval, and Biliran and 21 public high schools in the municipalities of Paranas, Motiong, and San Jorge in Samar; Taft, Dolores, and San Policarpo in Eastern Samar; and Laoang and Catubig in Northern Samar. The team also dropped off UPCAT information kits in senior high schools in nearby municipalities.
The ongoing caravan has reached 47 schools in Region 8 and around 900 Grade 11 students. The initiative is part of the Ugnayan ng Pahinungód’s Affirmative Action Program (AAP) to encourage senior high school students in underserved communities to study in UP. The program, with the slogan Dayon Kamo ha UP (meaning “Come in to UP”) includes summer tutorials at the UP Tacloban campus in June for qualified UPCAT applicants from the region.
