UP Tacloban’s Leyte-Samar Heritage Center (LSHC) held a roundtable discussion on “Learning Materials Production Using Eastern Visayas Local Languages” on 24 October 2025 at the LSHC Gallery. The forum was the second in the three-part “Pagpakusog han Aton Pinulungan” series.
 
The discussion was divided into two panels. The panel on “Local Languages in the Classroom” included Dr. Voltaire Q. Oyzon, Dr. Analyn C. Españo, Dr. Mat C. Banagbanag, and Ms. Firie Jill T. Ramos, who shared their work in developing learning materials for young learners using Eastern Visayas local languages. This was followed by a panel on “Local Languages in the Classroom…and Beyond” featuring Mr. Reyan L. Arinto, Prof. Phil Harold L. Mercurio, Mr. Herminigildo A. Sanchez, and Dr. Dominador L. Pagliawan, who discussed their experiences in integrating local languages into media, arts, and literature. An open forum followed, engaging students, faculty, and communication specialists from various institutions and agencies.
 
The Pagpakusog han Aton Pinulungan series aims to inform policy initiatives that promote the use of Eastern Visayas languages in education and public discourse. The project is funded by the UP Center for Integrative and Development Studies under its Local-Regional Network Studies Program.
