UP Tacloban Welcomes Freshies for AY 2026–2027

UP Tacloban kicked off the first semester of Academic Year 2026–2027 as a constituent university of the University of the Philippines System on 10 August 2026. First year students were warmly welcomed through simultaneous orientation activities conducted by the university’s different academic units. The College of Science held its college orientation at the Multi-Purpose Building, the College of Social Sciences and Management (CSSM) at the Library Hall, and the School of Humanities at the Leyte-Samar Heritage Center. The college orientations were followed by degree program orientations focusing on program specifications and academic expectations.

On 12 August 2026, the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) led the University Orientation for 404 freshies. Vice Chancellor for Administration Arvin De Veyra discussed UP Tacloban’s organizational structure and OSA Director Assoc. Prof. Jasmine Malinao talked about student support services and student organizations and the Anti-Hazing Law. The head of the Landbank – Tacloban Branch Mr. Christopher R. Marco then briefly introduced the students to the Landbank Campus Cash-lite Program, which is being launched for students throughout the UP System. This was followed by a short orientation to gender sensitivity and anti-sexual harassment (ASH) policies by Gender and Development Program (GDP) Coordinator Asst. Prof. Rima Jessamine Granali and Office of Anti-Sexual Harassment faculty-in-charge Ms. April Grace Lazarito, respectively. In the concluding presentation, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Prof. John Paul T. Yusiong discussed student’s rights, rules, and discipline.
