UP Tacloban to host Plastics Research Intensive Methods Training Program Visayas (PRIMe-TP Visayas)

On 1 February 2024, members of the UP Marine Science Institute’s Microbial Oceanography Laboratory (MOLab), which is headed by Dr. Leo Florence Onda, met with UP Tacloban Dean Dr. Patricia Arinto, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Dr. Irene Tan, College Research Coordinator Dr. Rolly Fuentes, and Asst. Prof. Rey Verona of the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics to discuss the forthcoming Plastics Research Intensive Methods Training Program Visayas (PRIMe-TP Visayas).
 
PRIME-TP Visayas is a two-week all-expenses paid training program for early-career plastics researchers in Visayas which will be held on 14-22 March 2024 at UP Tacloban College. The training program covers new methods and techniques in field collection, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and microscopy, and use of artificial intelligence or machine learning in plastics research.
 
PRIME-TP Visayas is open to graduate students, early-career researchers, and faculty members and resident researchers of universities and colleges or national government agencies in the Visayas with ongoing or planned plastics research activities in this part of the country. Qualified and interested applicants may submit their application letter, endorsement letter, and curriculum vitae on or before 11:59 PM of 20 February 2024 through bit.ly/primetpvisayas.
 
UP Tacloban is also a partner of MOLab in the Real-Time Monitoring and Early Warning for HABs Using High Throughput Imaging and Molecular Methods (HABs Watch) project led by Dr. Onda under the Commission on Higher Education – Leading the Advancement of Knowledge in Agriculture and Sciences (CHED- LAKAS) Program.
