05 September 2024

The BA Political Science program of UP Tacloban’s Division of Social Sciences hosted a book launch and public forum on Dr. Maria Tanyag’s “The Global Politics of Sexual and Reproductive Health” on 28 August 2024 at the UPTC AS Conference Hall.

Dr. Tanyag is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of International Relations of the Australian National University, and an Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) Fellow. She specializes in critical and feminist approaches to global peace and security, focusing on the Asia Pacific region and the Philippines in particular. Her book includes findings from a study she conducted in Tacloban City in the aftermath of supertyphoon Yolanda.

UPTC students, faculty and staff, representatives of the Tacloban City Population Office and Commission on Population and Development Region VIII, and local researchers attended the event. Dean Patricia Arinto welcomed Dr. Tanyag and the forum participants, and Division of Social Sciences chairperson Asst. Prof. Ruth Edisel Rylle Sadian-Cercado received a copy of the book from the author.

In the afternoon Dr. Tanyag led a research seminar attended by UPTC’s Political Science students.
