UP Tacloban celebrates this year’s National Arts Month

Check out the events at Katbari Arts Festival, UP Tacloban’s calendar of activities in celebration of this year’s National Arts Month with the theme “Matinuhaon nga Nasud”, which is inspired by the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA)’s theme for this year’s Arts Month “Ani ng Sining, Bayang Malikhain.”
 
The Katbari Arts Festival opens on 7 February with the launching of Professor Merlie Alunan’s “Tigom: Collected Poems” at the Leyte Samar Heritage Center. The book launch is part of UP Tacloban’s objective of advancing literary production, literary history, and literary translation in Eastern Visayas.
 
On 16 February, the PhilArts 1, Performance Studies 100 & Cultural Studies 101 classes will hold the annual Tagay Sangkay and Cultural Performance, a fun-filled bazaar featuring cultural performances and local food and drinks from various parts of Eastern Visayas and cultural communities across the country and the world.
 
On 21 February, UP Ideopraxist will host the Karit Anyag Arts Workshop on traditional arts, photography, and siday writing. The workshop aims to showcase, harness, and enrich the knowledge and skills of students in the diverse creative expressions in Eastern Visayas.
 
On 28 to 29 February multi-awarded poet and screenwriter and former Commissioner for Samar-Leyte Languages at the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino Jerry Grácio will visit UP Tacloban to hold a screenwriting workshop and launch his Waray translation of the classic, the Little Prince (An Ditoy nga Pinsipe).
