Professor Leni Yap-Dejeto is the newly elected President of the Biology Teachers Association of the Philippines (BIOTA) - Eastern Visayas Chapter for 2024-2026.

Professor Leni Yap-Dejeto, a faculty member of UP Tacloban’s Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (DNSM), is the newly elected President of the Biology Teachers Association of the Philippines (BIOTA) – Eastern Visayas Chapter for 2024-2026.
 
Aside from teaching courses in DNSM’s BS Biology and MS in Environmental Science programs, Professor Yap-Dejeto is a leading researcher in harmful algal blooms, locally known as red tide. She was program leader of Warning and Technology to Combat Hazards of Harmful Algal Blooms in Region VIII (WATCH HAB R8) program and project leader of the Mussel Glycogen Project funded by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). She is also part of the Filipino Genome Project of the UP Natural Science Research Institute (UP-NSRI), the BLUE Cares Project/Blue Carbon Network, and the CHED-LAKAS (former CHED PCARI) Real-time Monitoring and Early Warning for HABs using High Throughput Imaging and Molecular Methods (HABs Watch) Program led by the UP Marine Science Institute.
