Students of Wika 1 gathered to recite their original poetry entries for the literary competition, “MGA GUNITA NG PAGBALIKWAS: Blackout/Erasure Poetry at Pag-alala sa Batas Militar.” Following the open-stage poetry recital, Asley Dominique S. Solis (BS Accountancy–1), Ezrela Sophia N. Fevidal (BS Management–1), and Divine Niña R. Galola (BS Management–1) were declared winners of the Blackout Poetry Competition.

Traditional blackout poetry is a form of creative writing in which a writer transforms an existing text—such as a decree, newspaper article, or official document—by obscuring portions of the original text and leaving selected words visible to create a new poem. The process reflects on censorship and historical revisionism. Through this creative form, the remaining words beneath the layers of dark ink symbolize the enduring memories of Martial Law victims and underscore the idea that truth and collective memory cannot simply be erased.
