The Bachelor of Arts in Literature (BALit) program is for students who are interested in literature, creative writing, and cultural studies. The program integrates the study of literary history, translation, and production especially in Eastern Visayas.
The BA Literature (BALit) program provides students with the foundation to pursue careers in various fields, including:
The BALit program aims to contribute to the preservation, conservation, promotion, and enrichment of Eastern Visayan culture and languages (Bisaya Waray, Bisaya Cebuano, Abaknon). By attracting scholars and writers who are interested in research on the local languages, it will contribute to the development of the literary arts and scholarship on and in Eastern Visayan languages. It will also help expand the reach of local artistic and scholarly work beyond the region through translation.
The program supports UP Tacloban College’s mission of advancing the protection, preservation, and promotion of Filipino culture and heritage. It also supports the global sustainable development goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) which, aside from focusing on quality education, highlights the preservation and celebration of local cultures, and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), which includes strengthening efforts to protect and safeguard the world’s cultural and natural heritage.
