UP Tacloban’s Leyte-Samar Heritage Center (LSHC) held a roundtable discussion titled “Pagpakusog han Aton Pinulungan: Best Practices in the Teaching of Eastern Visayas Mother Tongue” on 19 September 2025 at the LSHC Gallery. Around 100 participants attended, including faculty and students from UP Tacloban, Leyte Normal University, and Eastern Visayas State University.
The sessions focused on the current state of Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) in Eastern Visayas, the challenges and gains in its implementation, and community-level experiences and studies on local language use. Speakers included educators and researchers from Leyte Normal University, Schools Division of Tacloban City, the Department of Education Region VIII, and primary and secondary schools in Capul Island, Northern Samar. An open forum followed, allowing participants to further exchange views on the role of regional languages.
The Pagpakusog han Aton Pinulungan series, supported by the UP Center for Integrative and Development Studies through its Local-Regional Network Studies Program, seeks to gather insights that will inform policies promoting Eastern Visayas languages.
