UP Tacloban Computer Science students clinch championship at first-ever regional hackathon

Team Haka-Haka from UP Tacloban College won first place at the 2025 Regional Smart Communities Exposition and Networking Engagement (rSCENE) Hackathon, organized by the City Government of Catbalogan in collaboration with DOST Region VIII and the Eastern Visayas Consortium for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology R&D (EVCIEERD) in Catbalogan City on 16-18 June 2025.
 
The winning team was composed of Jared Azor Bacay, Gabriel Angelo Badeo, Nathaniel Enrique Eulin, Rugie Gabitanan, and Honneluv Labanan.
 
Team 123Go, with members Desirre Barbosa, Norman Enrico Eulin, Rolf Genree Garces, Morescyl Vance Ortega, and Jade Eric Petilla, placed fifth in the competition.
 
The hackathon sought innovative technology-driven solutions to build smarter, more resilient communities in Eastern Visayas.
