UP Tacloban Celebrates World Mental Health Day with "Balay Iskx"

In celebration of World Mental Health Day, the UP Tacloban Psych Circle and Psychology 155 classes held a unique event called “Balay Iskx,” which aimed to foster awareness and support for mental well-being among students. Held on October 10, the event featured a “live-rary” (living library) format where participants engaged with “human books”—students who openly shared their personal experiences of coping with challenges like homesickness, academic stress, and the importance of social support.

In addition to the living library, the event featured various interactive booths with fun games designed to promote relaxation and self-care. These booths provided a lighthearted way for students to unwind and connect with peers, emphasizing the value of taking breaks and engaging in enjoyable activities as part of a healthy routine.

The day concluded with a sing-along session, where students gathered in solidarity, singing together to show their support for one another. The event highlighted the importance of creating a supportive community that fosters resilience and empathy.

“Balay Iskx” underscored UP Tacloban’s commitment to promoting mental health awareness and providing a safe space for students to share their experiences and support each other. By embracing this creative approach, the organizers succeeded in breaking down barriers around mental health discussions, encouraging students to speak openly and seek help when needed.
