The UP Tacloban Children’s University will be launched on 20 November 2025, International Children’s Day, with a disaster preparedness workshop for Grade 4 pupils from public schools in Tacloban City titled “Initiating Resilience through Art and Youth Action (IRAYA): Linog, Bagyo ug Daluyong.”
The UP Tacloban Children’s University program aims to develop critical life skills and dispositions necessary for school children to thrive as resilient and adaptable lifelong learners. It is spearheaded by UP Tacloban’s Ugnayan ng Pahinungod, the university’s volunteer service corps.
The IRAYA training course, the inaugural activity of the UP Tacloban Children’s University, is a project of the Knowledge Management Division of the UP Resilience Institute. It aims to introduce key concepts related to earthquakes, tsunami, and storm surge and foster constructive hope among participants to elicit collective action towards a more sustainable society.
